.22 Revolver Dry Shoot Course 2015

In March 2015, our cadets attended the dry shoot course. Here is one of their reflections on the experience.

The Sec 2s had their turn in learning the .22 revolver shooting rules. After being taught the basics of how to shoot, we went in groups of four to five for our dry shoot. We were given training revolvers and were instructed on how to hold the gun and shoot. We had to close one eye and straighten our arms. The rules we were taught were called TFN. T stood for 'Treat all guns as if they are loaded'. F stood for 'Finger out of the trigger guard unless you are justified to do so'. And N stood for 'Never point a firearm at anyone or anything until you are about to shoot'. We kept those rules in mind and tried our best to shoot straight and aim correctly. Of course, we were only shooting air and not real bullets but the recoil we experienced was just as real and a little shocking. However, not all of us could use the gun properly. At times, we forgot to keep our fingers out of the trigger guard or position our guns properly. One of my squadmates had trouble controlling the gun and could not push the barrel out. All in all, I felt that it was a very good and enjoyable experience for all of us. We learned a lot of police knowledge and are more aware of crimes. It felt quite surreal to be able to talk and interact with a few policemen. I think that even though the outing lasted for only a few hours, we absorbed quite a lot of knowledge and really found it enjoyable and fun. We had a great time there.
