Trip to the Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D.) 2007

On 2nd November 2007, our cadets attended the C.I.D. course at the Police Cantonment Complex and this is one of the reflections.

Firstly, there was a talk on crime scene investigation skills. A series of pictures taken at the crime scene showed us that the direction of blood indicates the original position when the victim was being murdered. For example, if a person is attacked while he standing, and if his body was moved later and laid down on the floor, the blood flow will still be downwards. Another feature is from the shape and depth of the scar, the police will know what kind of weapon the murderer has used.

The cadets also had a chance of looking the murder pictures of HuangNa and Liu Hongmei. Since technology is so advanced today, the police are able to find out the identity of the criminals quickly through fingerprints and footprints. Secondly, the drug abuse has become a serious problem globally. The smugglers are always looking for new ways to hide the drugs. There was a case when the police checking an open parking area, they found one pole unstable, and when they pulled it out ,they found many packets of drug in powder form.

Lastly, the formation of secret societies is also a threat to Singapore. There are two types of secret societies, one being the traditional type, while the other is the gang type. The traditional secret society usually consists of men aged 20 and above whereas the gang members are aged 13 to 19. The gangs are involved illegal things such as shoplifting, gang fighting and glue sniffing etc. All in all, justice has long arms; all sorts of criminals will be caught and punished in the end,no matter how smart they are. This was indeed a wonderful experience for us to learn the methods and ways the police and criminals work.
