Speed Shoot Fiesta! 2007

On 20 March 2007, our cadets participated in the Speed Shoot Fiesta! and here is a reflection on her thoughts about it

Speed Shoot Fiesta! was a joint effort by Hougang Secondary and the Art of APS; it involves accuracy of static shooting and most importantly, speed. The crucial and essential essence of shooting in this competition is reflex.

We were all excited when we knew that we were entering this competition as it sounded fun and cool to "play" with guns. There was a briefing at an earlier date which told us the specific rules and regulations of the competition, what we should and should not do in the actual presence of an air gun. We were also given a chance to take part in a dry shoot to understand how the gun actually worked. The 1st two participants would compete with another school, and if the 2nd two participants lost while the 1st two won, a tie would be called; and another round would take place to break the tie.

On the day itself, everyone assembled in school and took a mini-bus to Hougang Secondary School. Before our competition, it was the boys' competition and hence we had an activity to spend the time. The Art of APS had the program of self-defence lined in for all the girl participants. Initially, every
girl did not want to do the program but after much persuasion and convincing by the members of the Art of APS, we gave in. We were taught the proper way to use a baton and had chances to "fight" with one another.

Soon, it was time for the competition; we proceeded to the air rifle range. The organisers had converted the whole place into a range for air guns, and we drew lots to see who we were competing against. My team consisted of CPL Jia-Min, CPL Michelle and LCP Lavinia. CPL Jia-Min paired up with CPL Michelle, while I paired with LCP Lavinia. The tense moment against another school started; it was fortunate of us to win the 1st round, and it was my turn. I took deep breaths, and- we won the 1st session!

Our team and another team comprising of CPL Ashley, CPL Sheena, CPL Valerie and CPL Jian Qiong, both worked our ways up the hierarchy system whereby teams which lost twice would be eliminated from the game. It reached a point when both of the teams were against one another. Our team won, and the other team fought with another school for the 1st runner up placing. Again, they lost and hence we settled for Champion and 2nd runner up.

The prize presentation ceremony was exhilarating as both teams from AHSNPCC clinched prizes; it was "double happiness". To celebrate the success of our teams, T.O. Miss Pua treated us to a Kentucky Fried Chicken lunch. For us, it would be "triple happiness"!
