High Rope Challenge (HRC) 2015

On the 14th March 2015, the Secondary 4s made their last trip to Pulau Ubin for CCA related event, the high ropes challenge. Here is one of their reflections.

"Most of us felt a mixture of fear and excitement regarding this course while on our way to the campsite, not knowing what challenges we might face and of course it turned out to be really memorable and fun."

" Our first activity was the tunnel activity, which I felt was the easiest. It was completely dark inside, not even the figures of others could be seen. Fortunately, my group volunteered to go first and was given the easier task of hiding the 4 balls whereas the other group had to find it. Even though it was slightly scary as we did not know what to expect in the tunnel, we truly enjoyed it while singing and finding our way out. "

" Next was the flying fox, while on my way to the highest floor, climbing up the steps that can be seen through made me even more terrified. However, the moment we let ourselves off the ground, going down the flying fox was really thrilling. The adrenaline rush we felt was really great, the flying fox is definitely something I will miss. "

" After that was an enriching activity where trust is important. There are a total of 7 roles in this activity: the climber, spotter, first belayer, the anchorwoman, second belayer and the rope manager. Despite this activity not being as challenging, we learnt how to ensure the safety of our squadmates such as lowering them etc. We also made use of these newly learnt techniques on the dangling duo. Only 2 of us got a chance to attempt it due to time constraint, but it was clearly a tough activity to get on the next log and requires physical strength and teamwork to succeed. "

" Lastly, we have the rope obstacles which requires perseverance, it is not easy to complete this course at all since it is mainly walking on a rope and also the different obstacles which can be physically exhausting as it takes around 15 minutes just for one to complete it. "
