National Day Parade 2007
On 8 August 2007, our cadets participated in the National Day Parade held in school and these are some of their reflections.

National Day was once celebrated in Anglican High School, after one year of not having the parade. Everyone who participated in the 2005 parade missed having it in 2006, and were thus very jubilant and excited about the paticipation. Moreover, only the Secondary 3 squad(the only squad in 2005) participated then; being seniors, we were eager to let our new juniors try out and gain experience from the parade, while applying what they have learnt in the earlier part of the year.
Overall, it was fun and enjoyable and we felt sad when the event ended; it had become part of our trainings.

Prior to the actual National Day Parade on 8th August, all the seven uniform groups in Anglican High School has trained under the hot sun for four weeks. NPCC, being the newest CCA in UG, we girls are disciplined enough to perfect our drills while marching down the slope. When we entered the parade square, our girls followed the drum beats and gave a loud bang at the end of it. Standing proudly in the middle of the parade square, we sang the national anthem followed by the pledge. Everyone of us was really excited, the trainings were tiring, but on the actual event, we were so energetic to perform sharp movements. We did our best in marching, although it is not perfect; the teachers were happy to see our improvements.

This year's parade was almost the same as the one in 2005, where all the uniformed groups(U.G.s) marched into the parade from the church carpark, down a slope. There was a flag bearer, SGT Rachel who joined the other representatives from the other U.G.s in the "eyes-on" moment of bringing in the national flag. The actual challenge comes when we had to march down the slope, while keeping the continuos timings for precision. This year's parade commander was from the Boy Scouts, who was the one who "lead" us all into the parade.
Marching down the slope was tough, and after many practices under the hot sun/drizzling rain , only then we could do it well on the actual day. Getting the right beats of the drum sound by the band members with certain moves was also a tough feat; sometimes the wrong leg "banged-on" could just cause the whole contingent to re-do the entire march down. We practised every time available when every member could make it; trying to perfect the skill. Our efforts were paid off on the day itself.
At the parade ground, we took the pledge, sang the national anthem with pride, while reciting the recollections as part of the audience. The ambience then was glorious, while we marched and "performed" in our smart uniforms. The ability to stand still was "groomed" from many practices we had before the day itself, regardless of anything that flys past(i.e. insects):D.
Once, when SGT Ashley(one of the contingent I.C.s) having to go for the inter-unit competition, was thus absent; I was the duty I.C. of the day, and hence took over her role temporarily. I was at the back of the contingent; and it gave me a sense of satisfation, seeing everyone putting in so much efforts, although I was not the one for the actual day. From the back, I saw that everyone of the contingent was enjoying every process of the practice itself; it was great joy to know that the juniors could apply what they have learnt.
On the day itself, we had one dry run through, and slowly at the top of the slope, we saw the great multitudes of audiences building up in red and white attire. Suddenly, we felt nervous after realising that there would be many people watching. We summoned courage, and breezed throughout the entire parade, without having any mistakes.
Overall, it was fun and enjoyable and we felt sad when the event ended; it had become part of our trainings.
